Staff and trustees of Vashon Center for the Arts (VCA) are pleased to announce that Susan J. Warner will join the organization as its new Executive Director.
Warner spent the previous 16 years at the world-renowned Museum of Glass in Tacoma, Washington. She was most recently the Artistic Director/Major Gifts Officer and before that, the Executive Director.
“After conducting an incredibly thorough search that brought us candidates from across our region and beyond, we are simply thrilled that Susan will be joining us,” said Denise Katz, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of VCA. “Her vision, energy, commitment and sense of community will be a wonderful fit for our organization and our island home.”
“What VCA has done these past few years is nothing short of amazing,” said Warner. “I am extremely privileged to step into this position and continue building on the legacy created by so many here on the Island. The quality of the performing arts experiences, gallery exhibits, education and instruction is just exceptional. Add the new building (Katherine L White Hall) and the huge potential it creates for even more programming. It’s really thrilling... well, it all makes for a dream come true, and I look forward to being part of a very exciting future.”
Warner grew up in East Africa, studied at Southampton University in the UK attaining a Bachelor’s degree in History, followed by a Diploma with Merit from the Studycentre for the Fine and Decorative Arts in London. She received her Master’s Degree in Education from Antioch University in Seattle and recently attended Strategic Perspectives in Nonprofit Management at the Executive Education Program at Harvard Business School, and Museum Leadership at the Getty Leadership Institute. Prior to joining Museum of Glass, Warner held positions at Seattle Children’s Museum, the State Capital Museum and Dayton Art Institute.
